Building upon the momentum of putting up temporary shelters for quake-affected residents in Cebu, the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) noted the ongoing installation of modular shelter units (MSUs) for families displaced by the “doublet” earthquake in Davao Oriental on October 10.

In a media release on Sunday, DHSUD Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling noted that this initiative in Barangay Poblacion, Tarragona town, is in accordance with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive in his earlier visit to Davao Oriental while assessing the damage inflicted by the magnitude 7.4 earthquake that shook the Mindanaoan province.

The Bayanihan Village is being set up in close collaboration with DPWH, DSWD, the DILG, Office of Civil Defense, and the LGU of Tarragona, one of the hardest-hit towns in the province.

These temporary shelters being established in Cebu and Davao highlight a whole-of-government approach in facilitating prompt disaster response to aid in the recovery and rehabilitation of quake-affected families in Visayas and Mindanao. (with report from Denisse Osorio | PTV News)
