Aguirre orders NBI probe on Mandaluyong ‘misencounter’

MANILA — Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II has ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to look into the shooting incident in Mandaluyong City that left two people dead and two others injured.

On Friday, Aguirre ordered NBI Director Dante Gierran to “conduct (an) investigation and case build-up over the deaths of two individuals and injuries of two individuals during a police operation along Shaw Blvd. corner Wack Wack road involving members of the Mandaluyong City Police”.

Aguirre also ordered the NBI to gather evidence and file appropriate charges before the Department of Justice (DOJ) against those responsible for the incident.

On Thursday night, policemen shot at the passengers of a white Mitsubishi van along Shaw Blvd. corner Old Wack-Wack Road, which was transporting a woman wounded in an earlier shooting incident in Addition Hills, Mandaluyong, thinking it was the getaway vehicle of the shooting suspects.

Authorities got this impression based on the report of barangay tanods who earlier responded to the shooting incident in the area.

The incident appeared to be a case of mistaken identity.

The wounded victim, identified as Joana Amboa, was killed along with her companion.

Two others were hurt, including the vehicle’s driver and Amboa’s live-in-partner. (Christopher Lloyd Caliwan/PNA)
