As part of the government’s initiatives to ease the burden of the citizenry amid these challenging times, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has ordered the extension of the annual filing of income tax returns.

In a social media post late Tuesday, the President announced that the deadline would be moved from April 15 to May 15, giving taxpayers ample time to accomplish the necessary requirements to file their income tax returns.

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) meanwhile released Revenue Memorandum Circular (RMC) No. 030-2026 shortly after the Chief Executive’s pronouncements online.

This initiative was in compliance with the earlier declaration of a State of National Energy Emergency through the issuance of Executive Order No. 110, s. 2026, which calls on all agencies to facilitate a whole-of-government approach towards mitigating the effects of rising oil prices on the common folk.

The memo stated, “Taxpayers may file their returns through the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) electronic filing platforms and pay the corresponding taxes due thereon electronically in any of the available electronic payment platforms and manually to the nearest Authorized Agent Banks, notwithstanding the covered jurisdiction of the Revenue District Office.”
