Palace starts 2026 budget review, vows integrity, proper spending

Executive Secretary Ralph Recto on Tuesday said the Executive Branch is conducting a thorough review of the ratified 2026 General Appropriations Act (GAA) to ensure that public funds are properly allocated and responsive to the needs of the Filipino people.

In a statement, Recto said Malacañang received the ratified 2026 GAA on Dec. 29 and has begun “a thorough review to ensure its integrity and effective execution.”

Recto said President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and his economic team are carefully reviewing the budget to identify any changes from the originally submitted National Expenditure Program (NEP).

Recto said the review, which is expected to take about a week, aims to ensure that the spending bill meets both legal requirements and public needs.

“We will ensure that the 2026 GAA will satisfy not only the legal and technical requirements but, more importantly, the needs of the Filipino people,” he said.

The Malacañang official also assured the public that a brief period under a reenacted budget would not affect government operations.

“The public is assured that a brief period under a reenacted budget will not disrupt government operations,” Recto said, adding that the review process is meant to safeguard fiscal discipline and ensure that taxpayers’ money is spent wisely and translated into concrete benefits for Filipinos.
