The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) approved a total of 141,724 units of passenger jeepneys and UV Express for the P10-per-liter fuel discount, subsidized by the government.
In a statement on Monday, LTFRB Chairperson Vigor Mendoza II said the total covers all regions and is already active, with 12,688 beneficiaries so far who have registered successful transactions.
“This is proof that the government is still really taking care of the PUV sector despite the improvement of the prices of petroleum products,” Chairperson Mendoza said.
The program, previously launched in Metro Manila with only 50 participating gasoline stations, has been expanded to cover 4,299 stations nationwide through coordination with the Department of Energy. To date, the national government has paid over P13.3 million since the program started.
The program will later be expanded to other public utility vehicles (PUV).
“This will not only benefit the drivers and operators but also the commuters as well,” he said.
He said the discount will be properly implemented through monitoring and immediate response to reports of errors or glitches.
A list of participating gasoline stations in Metro Manila and the rest of the country will soon be available through a mobile application.
Under the program, public utility vehicles with existing and valid franchises will be included in the program, with a ceiling of 150 liters per week.
Under the program’s approved guidelines, the LTFRB is tasked with maintaining custody and control of the budget of the Fuel Subsidy Program until it is allocated and transferred to the Land Bank of the Philippines for administration, processing, settlement, and crediting of fuel subsidy amounts to accredited gasoline stations.
