The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has approved the applications of four higher education institutions (HEIs) to offer Doctor of Medicine programs beginning Academic Year (AY) 2026-2027, expanding opportunities for aspiring doctors to pursue medical education in different parts of the country.
CHED granted Government Permits to Tarlac State University (TSU) and North Eastern Mindanao State University (NEMSU) to operate the first and second year levels of their Doctor of Medicine programs. The Commission also granted Certificates of Program Compliance to Cavite State University (CvSU) and Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa (PLMun) for their Doctor of Medicine programs.
The approvals support President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s push to expand medical education and increase the number of institutions that can help produce more doctors and other healthcare professionals. By strengthening medical education in more parts of the country, the government aims to build a larger pool of health professionals who can serve communities nationwide, including areas where healthcare workers are most needed.
CHED Chairperson Shirley Agrupis said expanding opportunities to study medicine must go hand in hand with maintaining quality, so that future doctors are equipped with the training and competencies needed to respond to the country’s healthcare needs.
The HEIs underwent CHED evaluation visits to validate their compliance with CHED’s minimum requirements for the Doctor of Medicine program under CHED Memorandum Order No. 18, s. 2016. CHED will continue working with HEIs to widen opportunities for medical education while ensuring that programs meet quality standards and contribute to the country’s need for more well-trained healthcare professionals.
