“Ang bawat paglalayag at bawat pagbabantay ay para sa sambayanang Pilipino.”
This sentence best encapsulates the duty of Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) personnel, who brave the rough seas and aggression of those who intrude into Philippine waters, as well as extend a helping hand when calamities strike.
It was in the spirit of these responsibilities that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led the oath-taking ceremony of newly promoted PCG flag officers on Tuesday.
In his remarks, the President honored the indispensable role of PCG personnel as the guardians of the country’s maritime trade and transportation, ensuring the unhampered flow of goods and people across several islands.
President Marcos Jr. added, “We have protected our seas by conducting environmental inspections nationwide, and when it comes to enforcing our laws, such as going after illegal fishing, smuggling, and other threats, the PCG is always among the first to respond.”
He likewise hailed the Coast Guard’s oneness with Filipino fisherfolk in times of distress, as well as their efforts in facilitating humanitarian assistance—a timely recognition of their valiant efforts as their personnel fulfill their duties in inundated communities in Central Luzon.
Moreover, the President harkened back to his Monday engagement during the celebration of National Heroes’ Day, and likened more than 20 newly-promoted officers to the modern faces of heroism.
The Chief Executive concluded, “This heroism is shown in the willingness to put the needs of others above your own, even when duty requires great personal risk. This is the courage that we see in the men and women of the Philippine Coast Guard. This is the standard that I ask you to carry in your command.”
