The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) launched the Philippine Nursing Education Roadmap (PNER) 2030 during its National Directorate Meeting, setting a national direction for strengthening nursing education and preparing future nurses to respond to the country’s evolving healthcare needs.
Developed by the CHED Technical Panel for Nursing in collaboration with the University of Santo Tomas (UST), the roadmap identified priority reforms in nursing curricula, clinical training, faculty development, student well-being, and nursing research.
CHED Chairperson Shirley Agrupis emphasized that nursing education must go beyond preparing graduates to pass licensure examinations.
It must equip future nurses with the knowledge, clinical competencies, critical thinking, and compassion needed to deliver quality patient care in increasingly complex healthcare environments.
Aligned with CHED’s ACHIEVE Agenda 2030, the roadmap will guide efforts to modernize nursing education, strengthen partnerships between higher education institutions and healthcare providers, and better align nursing competencies with the needs of the country’s health system.
Through PNER 2030, CHED aims to develop competent, compassionate, and globally competitive Filipino nurses while strengthening the country’s capacity to deliver quality healthcare to communities nationwide. (PR)
