DepEd condemns brutal rape-slay of Grade 7 student in CamSur

MANILA — The Department of Education (DepEd) on Saturday condemned the brutal rape-slay of a Grade 7 student in Camarines Sur.

In a statement, DepEd vowed to continue coordinating with authorities “to help bring the perpetrators to justice”.

Based on the school’s incident report, the Grade 7 learner of Tinawagan High School in Tigaon, Camarines Sur was found lifeless at a banana plantation about 50 meters from her house.

DepEd said the victim’s younger brother attested that he was walking home from school with his sister on Dec. 7, when she made a turn to the plantation, and suddenly disappeared.

“As the evening came and the victim did not show up, her family sought the help of barangay officers to find her,” DepEd added.

DepEd called on the public to be vigilant and proactive to prevent similar incidents that may put children’s lives in danger.

DepEd said it remains firm in protecting the rights and well-being of students against any form of abuse, violence, exploitation, discrimination and threat. (PNA)
