Majority of Filipinos approve Pres. Duterte’s performance

MANILA — Majority of Filipinos approve the performance of President Rodrigo Duterte, a latest survey from Pulse Asia show.

In its December 2017 poll, Pulse Asia found 80 percent of Filipinos approve his performance, while 7 percent disapproved and 13 percent were undecided.

The same survey showed that Vice President Maria Leonor Robredo got 59 percent approval rating while Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III earned 57 percent.

Pres. Duterte’s high rating was driven by Mindanao at 93 percent, Visayas at 86 percent, Metro Manila at 79 percent and the remaining parts of Luzon at 72 percent.

The survey also found the president had a trust rating of 82 percent, 6 percent had small or no trust and 13 percent were undecided.

He scored the highest in Mindanao at 94 percent, Visayas at 86 percent, Metro Manila at 79 percent and the other parts of Luzon at 74 percent.

The survey also showed that across geographic areas and socio-economic classes, it is only Pres. Duterte who succeeds in scoring majority approval ratings (72% to 93% and 77% to 85%, respectively) and trust figures (74% to 94% and 78% to 85%, respectively).

Among the issues that occurred prior to and during the conduct of the survey include the Congress’ ratification of the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) bill which seeks to raise more revenues for the Duterte administration’s infrastructure program and the approval of the PHP3.7 trillion national budget for 2018.

The survey was conducted from Dec. 10-15 and was based on a sample of 1,200 respondents. (PNA)
