SALVADOR, Lanao del Norte — The Department of Education has pledged to build classrooms and provide equipment for the schools ravaged by recent flooding in Lanao del Norte due to typhoon Vinta.
Among the recipient schools was Padianan Elementary School in this town, which DepEd Sec. Leonor M. Briones visited last week.
Briones said the school would receive new learning materials, equipment like computers, and a two-storey building housing six classrooms.
Briones said flood-affected schools in Lanao del Norte and Lanao del Sur would also receive the same assistance from DepEd.
Accompanied by DepEd officials from Misamis Occidental, Tagum City, Bukidnon and Iligan City, Briones visited several schools in Lanao del Norte and neighboring areas that sustained damaged from flooding caused by typhoon Vinta.
“This is a good chance to personally view the situation…and to know the degree of devastation and what is needed,” she said local DepEd officials.
Briones said she brought DepEd officials of neighboring areas for them to assist in the repair and renovation of damaged schools.
She also encouraged parents and learners alike to persevere “even in the midst of disasters.” (Irma Boza/PNA)
