Singaporean firm to design New Clark City

MANILA — A Singaporean consulting firm for urban, industrial, and infrastructure will make the detailed design of the New Clark City in Central Luzon, Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) said Monday.

BCDA and Japan Overseas Infrastructure Investment Corp. for Transport and Urban Development (JOIN) have partnered with Singapore-based Surbana Jurong to prepare the detailed design standards and guidelines for the new metropolis outside the National Capital Region (NCR).

Aside from doing the refinement of the detailed urban and infrastrucuture design, Surbana Jurong will also serve as financial and business advisor for the BCDA for the New Clark City project.

It will also help in reviewing the development of Public-Private Partnership (PPP) framework provision of utility services, such as water and power, in the new metropolis as well as making the framework for long-term operation of the New Clark City.

The Singaporean firms is one of the largest urban, industrial, and infrastructure consulting companies in Asia with 120 offices in countries such as China, India, and Myanmar.

Meanwhile, the state-owned BCDA forged a cooperation agreement with the Government of Japan through JOIN for the development of New Clark City, which was formerly known as Clark Green City.

The New Clark City, a 9,450-hectare property, is located at the Clark Special Economic Zone.

The new metropolis in Central Luzon aims to be the country’s first smart, disaster-resilient, and green city.

When fully developed, New Clark City is expected to contribute about PHP1.57 trillion to the national economy. (Kris Crismundo/PNA)
