6 suspects in Clark airport luggage pilferage suspended

CLARK, Pampanga — Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC) president Alexander Cauguiran on Thursday tagged six Miascor Aviation Services employees as responsible for the pilferage of the luggage of an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) from Bulacan.

Cauguiran, however, did not divulge the names of the six suspects pending investigation of the Clark Airport police.

The six suspects have been placed  under preventive suspension following the Facebook post of Jovenil Dela Cruz of Pandi, Bulacan regarding his pilfered luggage.

According to Cauguiran, Miascor is the ground handler under contract with airlines that service flights in Clark and handle baggage of passengers.

“I will also recommend to Miascor the termination from employment of these suspects,” he said in a statement, adding that measures are being undertaken with airlines and ground handlers to ensure that the incident will not happen again.

Miascor has compensated the passenger for the lost items in the luggage amounting to PHP84,000.

Last December 23, 2017, Dela Cruz arrived at Clark International Airport (CRK) via Jet Star Flight No. 3K 779 from Singapore-Clark and reported to the Philippine Airport and Ground Services Terminal Inc. (PAGS) that his three luggages and one big “balikbayan” box will arrive on December 24.

PAGS luggage agent Jobel Fernando told Dela Cruz that they will immediately notify him upon the arrival of the luggage. However, there was no notification sent after two weeks.

On Wednesday, Dela Cruz decided to go to Clark Airport to ask about the luggage that was found out to have been delivered last December 24.

Upon claiming, he discovered that his luggage was damaged and several items placed in the box were missing. (PNA)
