Preemptive evacuation up in Capiz village

ILOILO CITY — A preemptive evacuation has been ordered in an upland village of Dumarao, Capiz due to a possible landslide after several days of downpour.

Espiridion Pelaez of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) of Capiz confirmed the release of the order following reports from its municipal counterpart of Dumarao.

Pelaez said municipal rescuers are now proceeding to Barangay Agbatuan in Dumarao to carry out the preemptive evacuation.

The PDRRMO personnel are also on standby and ready to join the operation when necessary.

Proper coordination was also done with the Philippine National Police and the 61st Infantry Battalion of the 3rd Infantry Spearhead Division of the Philippine Army, he stated.

Alert level 3 has been raised in the village following a “critical ground movement” monitored by the Dynaslope sensor at 2: 30 p.m. Monday.

The landslide early warning committee of the PDRRMO has recommended that households at risk be evacuated, Pelaez said.

They are yet to determine the number of families to be evacuated, he added.

The PDRRM officer said the area has been under heavy rains for the past days which may trigger a landslide.

Bad weather also placed seven municipalities and 47 barangays in Capiz under water.

A landslide was also reported in Barangay Guimbalaon in Silay City, Negros Occidental but was removed as of 9 a.m. Monday.

There was also flooding in seven barangays of Talisay also in the same province. (PNA)
