MANILA — Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Jesus Dureza stressed President Rodrigo Duterte is ready to issue an executive order for the passage of the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) if Congress fails to accomplish it.
Dureza bared in his Facebook account Wednesday that the president met with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) led by Kagi Ibrahim Murad on Monday in Davao City to reassure them that he would push for the early passage of the law ahead of the shift to federalism.
The adviser also welcomed the act of Senator Miguel Zubiri to adopt the working draft of the Bangsamoro Transition Commission bill, which the president certified, in the resumption of the Senate hearings.
Zubiri withdrew the old version of the BBL bill he had previously filed in Congress.
Dureza further welcomed Zubiri’s announcement that he is set to hold the initial round of public hearings for the BBL in the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) and other areas.
The senator earlier said the Senate would conduct a hearing on the BBL by January 25-26, while the lawmakers target to pass the bill before the Senate adjourns in March 2018. (PNA)
