Landslide alert level 3 still up in Capiz village

ILOILO CITY — Alert Level 3 is still up in Barangay Agbatuan, Dumarao in the province of Capiz following a critical ground movement monitored Monday afternoon, according to the Capiz Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) head.

Esperidion Pelaez, head of the Capiz PDRRMO, said in an interview on Thursday, that 48 families or 158 individuals were evacuated on the same day the warning was issued.

The evacuees have yet to return home and are staying in private houses in the same barangay.

The PDRMMO is waiting for the recommendation of the municipal government of Dumarao on what to do with the families whose houses are situated in the landslide-prone area, he said.

Once the recommendation comes in, he added that he will coordinate with Capiz Governor Tony del Rosario for whatever support the provincial government can extend to the affected families.

As of Thursday, 46 barangays in Capiz are still flooded while waters in 24 others have subsided.

Pelaez added that they are also waiting for the validated list of affected farmers from various municipalities to start the release of the PHP10.9-million assistance to farmers affected by Tropical Depression Agaton.

The fund was realigned from the province’s calamity fund to be used for post-disaster rehabilitation and recovery assistance to an initial 5,000 farmers. (PNA)
