Close to P120-M aid distributed to Mayon-affected families

MANILA — Aid extended to families displaced by Mayon Volcano’s unrest has so far amounted to PHP119,631,689.08, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said in its Wednesday update.

The assistance came from the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Health, Office of Civil Defense, Department of Education, Department of Labor and Employment, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Philippine Red Cross, local government units and non-government organizations, NDRRMC executive director Ricardo Jalad said.

As of 6 a.m. Wednesday, a total of 23,250 families or 89,828 individuals remain affected by the Mayon Volcano’s unrest.

These families are from 61 barangays in Bacacay, Camalig, Guinobatan, Ligao City, Daraga, Tabaco City, Malilipot, Santo Domingo and Legazpi City, all in Albay.

Jalad said that 19,233 families or 72,972 persons are currently being aided in 76 designated evacuation centers while 2,901 families or 11,993 individuals were being served outside. (PNA)
