Trough of LPA, NE monsoon to bring scattered rains Saturday

MANILA — The country will experience scattered rains caused by the trough of a low-pressure area (LPA) and the northeast monsoon, the state weather bureau said Saturday.

The LPA was spotted at about 505 km. east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

The northeast monsoon is affecting northern and central Luzon, it added.

Cloudy skies with scattered rains are expected over Cagayan Valley, the Cordillera region and Aurora, while partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rains will prevail over Metro Manila, the Ilocos region and the rest of central Luzon.

Cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms will be experienced over Mindanao and eastern Visayas due to the LPA’s trough.

The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers caused by localized thunderstorm.

Meanwhile, strong to gale winds will blow over northern and central Luzon. Coastal waters in these areas will be rough to very rough.

Moderate to strong winds are expected over the rest of Luzon and eastern Visayas with moderate to rough seas.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas, PAGASA said. (Ma. Cristina Arayata/PNA)
