Padlusan zipline to open for free on Valentine’s Day

SAN JOSE De BUENAVISTA, Antique — The Padlusan Adventure Park zipline will be opened on Valentine’s Day free of charge for lovers and adventure seekers.

Antique Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) chief Broderick Train together with Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Romeo Magdato on Friday held a simulation to ensure that the zipline in Barangay Tubudan, San Remigio town is safe during its soft opening on February 14.

Train said there were already several test rides conducted before and no major accident reported since it was inaugurated June of last year.

The PDRRMO with the Provincial Engineering Office (PEO) headed by Engr. Inocencio Dajao also conducted an assessment on the safety of the zipline last year, which is why they were able to issue a safety certificate.

Magdato also said that since the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) has not yet approved the proposed Provincial Ordinance Number ‎2018-001 stipulating the rate of the zipline then what will happen will just be a soft opening.

“There will just be a guideline that a person can ride only once for free per day,” said Magdato, whose office will manage the zipline.

Proceeds to be earned from the zipline ride is supposed to be used for the maintenance of the Livestock Center right at the Padlusan Park where there are cattle and horses being bred and eventually would be part of the attraction.

Magdato said that the PEO has now taken sample for the soil density test that had been requested by the SP as part of ensuring the safety of zipline before they would approve the Ordinance.

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Metals Industry Research and Development Center is making analysis of the materials used for the zipline per request of the SP during their January 25 session where they invited the contractor Bonibal Construction Project Manager Engr. Jean Manalaotao and DOST’s engineer Felipe Pachuco to answer their queries.

Manalaotao during her appearance at the SP admitted that they had not conducted soil density test before the actual construction because it was not within the scope of their work.

Even without an ordinance yet, Antique Governor Rhodora J. Cadiao gave her nod for the soft opening due to the request to open for Valentine’s and for the National State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) meet on February 18-24.

“I will ride the zipline on Valentine’s Day,” Cadiao then said during her media interview last Monday as she encouraged others to join her during the opening. (Annabel Consuelo Petinglay/PNA)
