Robbery incidents in Bacolod down by 31.6% in January

BACOLOD CITY — Robbery incidents in Bacolod City decreased by 31.58 percent in January compared to the cases for the same period in 2017, police records show.

During the first month of 2018, only 13 cases were listed while 19 incidents were recorded in January last year.

Senior Supt. Francisco Ebreo, officer-in-charge of Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), said on Thursday they are now focusing on crimes against properties and persons in the wake of the series of robbery incidents in the city.
Dawn robberies have victimized a tricycle driver and two women from Bohol in the past days.

Despite the decline in the robbery cases, Ebreo said the police stations should not allow the recurrence of crimes in their respective areas of jurisdiction.

“They should immediately determine the cause and provide solution to prevent it from happening again,” the police chief said.

Earlier, the BCPO also reported a 37 percent decrease in the number of eight focus crimes in Bacolod in the month of January.

From January 1 to 22, 2018, only 41 cases were monitored compared to 65 during the same period last year.

The eight focused crimes include murder, homicide, physical injuries, rape, robbery, theft, stealing of cars and motorcycles.

The Bacolod police attributed the decline to the application of Enhanced Managing Police Operation (Empo) to the system of BCPO.

“Although BCPO is struggling with limited resources especially in manpower, using Empo, problems are being addressed scientifically through the evaluation on crime clock and crime mapping,” it added. (Nanette Guadalquiver/PNA)
