Zamboanga Sur suspends classes due to ‘Basyang’

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur — The provincial government on Tuesday suspended classes in all levels amid the prevailing inclement weather condition.

OIC Gov. William Ace Cerilles issued the suspension order after the state weather bureau hoisted Tropical Cyclone Signal No.1 in all parts of this provinces and its neighboring provinces due to Tropical Storm “Basyang”.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Tropical Storm Basyang was estimated based on all available data at 190 kilometers East Southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur with maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour (Km/H) near the center and gustiness of up to 80 km/h.

Basyang, international name Sandba, is forecast to move West Northwest at 25 km/h.

Cerilles has advised all residents to be vigilant and “stay in safe premises all the time”.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office is closely monitoring the situation in the entire province.

PAGASA warned of possible flooding or landslides due to moderate to heavy rains.

This province comprises of 26 municipalities and one component city and further subdivided into 681 barangays. (PNA)
