Couples urged to be vigilant vs. criminals on Valentine’s Day

MANILA — The Philippine National Police (PNP) advised lovers and couples to be wary of criminals who are out to take advantage of Valentine’s Day to carry out their unscrupulous activities.

“Notorious individuals and crime groups will take advantage through some modus operandi such as Credit Card Scam (Baraha Gang), Bukas Kotse Modus, Ipit-Taxi Modus, Laslas Bag/Pocket Gang, Pitas Tactics, and Salisi Modus,” PNP spokesperson Chief Supt. John Bulalacao said Tuesday.

Also, couples are also reminded not to post any plans and happenings on social media as it may indicate that their homes as vacant which could lead to the “Akyat-Bahay” modus.

Bulalacao also urged the public to report to the nearest police station any obvious suspicious personalities and acts and remain alert at all times.

“On the other hand, the PNP will maximize police visibility in all public places tomorrow, coinciding with celebration of the annual Ash Wednesday,” he added.

Bulalacao said PNP personnel would also be deployed to Catholic churches to ensure a peaceful observation of the start of the Lenten season. (PNA)
