Alleged pusher killed, cop wounded in Cebu drug sting

CEBU CITY — A police officer was hurt when he was shot by a suspect, who wrestled him for his gun, during a drug-bust operation in San Fernando, Cebu on Tuesday night.

The Cebu Provincial Police Office on Wednesday said PO2 Aristeo Tampus of the San Fernando Police Station was hit on his left elbow during a scuffle with suspected street-level pusher Benjamin Acero Jr., who resisted arrest.

Despite his injury, Tampus was reportedly able to regain control of the situation and eventually shot Acero, who was later pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician at the Carcar District Hospital in neighboring Carcar City.

Acero, of legal age and popularly known as “Titing Makmak,” was allegedly a notorious street-level drug pusher in Barangay South Poblacion, San Fernando.

Recovered from the dead suspect were three small and one medium-sized plastic sachets of methamphetamine hydrochloride or “shabu” and the PHP500 buy-bust money.

The seized drugs were estimated to weigh about 3 grams and with a Dangerous Drugs Board value of PHP35,400.

Tampus is set to receive the “Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting” (Medal of the Wounded Brave) from Police Regional Office – 7 Director, Chief Supt. Robert Quenery. (Luel Galarpe /PNA)
