P1.6-B infra projects up for implementation in Zambo

ZAMBOANGA CITY — A total of 102 infrastructure projects involving road construction and improvement worth PHP1.6 billion are up for implementation in this city this year.

This was announced by Department of Finance Sec. Carlos Dominguez III, guest speaker of the 81st Charter anniversary on Monday of this city.

Dominguez said these projects included the 36.77-kilometer by-pass road targeted to be completed this year.

Once completed, the by-pass road will serve as alternative route for business from neighboring provinces in the Zamboanga Peninsula.

It will also ease up transportation of goods to the Zamboanga Special Economic Zone (Zamboecozone).

Meanwhile, Dominguez vowed to support the plan to transfer the Zamboanga International Airport (ZIA) to a new site in Barangay Mercedes.

However, he requested the city’s two congressmen to file certain legislation that would fast track the implementation of a new airport project.

He emphasized that infrastructure investments have the best multiplier effect in domestic economy.

Some 15,000 people representing the different sectors of society participated in the grand civic military parade highlighting the 81st Charter Day celebration.

Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar has personally led the parade that started from in Ledesma Street passing through the main thoroughfares towards the City Hall grounds where the commemorative program was held. (PNA/Teofilo Garcia, Jr with reports from R.G. Antonet A. Go)
