5 Iloilo cops sacked for grave misconduct

ILOILO CITY — The National Police Commission (Napolcom) has dismissed from service five police officers here for grave misconduct.

Senior Police Officer 1 Dante F. Sison, PO3 Alexis A. Jutis, PO2 Dinaree C. Sia, PO1s Milbert Niño and Rodel A. Paulan, all former members of the City Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group (CAIDSOTG) of the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO), were charged with abuse of a minor whom they claimed had stolen the firearm of Jutis on October 17, 2014.

Lawyer Joseph Celis, Napolcom-6 Regional Director, said the police officers again “forcibly took the complainant from their house, interrogated and subjected her to maltreatment both physically and mentally to elicit confession regarding the lost firearm” on November 9, 2014.

“She (complainant) was brought to the bridge and was threatened to be dropped off,” he said in an interview on Thursday.

Celis, based on the testimony of the complainant, said PO2 Sia even slapped the female minor several times on the face while interrogating her; PO3 Jutis kept on hitting her head with a piece of carton; and PO1 Niño slapped her face with money.

Celis added that their penalty of dismissal from police service carries an accessory penalty of cancellation of their eligibility, forfeiture of retirement benefits and disqualification for re-employment in the government service.

The policemen’s dismissal serves as warning to all the policemen in service, he said.

He said that he has been randomly been visiting some police stations to assure that the policemen are doing their tasks.

“If your shift is from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m, you need to be in your posts. If not, I will make you explain and if your explanation is not enough, I will file a case against you,” he added. (Cindy Ferrer/PNA)
