MANILA — A Chinese fugitive wanted by authorities in Beijing for economic crimes will soon be deported by the Bureau of Immigration (BI).
In a statement, BI Commissioner Jaime Morente said Jiang Yabo, 36, was arrested on Monday at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) by operatives from the bureau’s fugitive search unit (FSU).
The foreigner was at the airport to send off his parents to China when he was collared by the agents outside the premises of the NAIA 2 terminal.
“We will deport him for being an undesirable and undocumented alien,” Morente said, adding that Jiang’s passport has been cancelled by the Chinese government.
The BI chief noted that the BI board of commissioners on Oct. 27, 2016, issued a summary deportation order against Jiang after the Chinese embassy in Manila sought the bureau’s help in locating the fugitive.
BI intelligence officer Bobby Raquepo said Jiang has been on the Chinese police’s wanted list since August 2016 by the Jianye branch of the municipal public security bureau in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, China.
Raquepo said the Chinese embassy did not provide details about the case, except that the foreigner is wanted for economic crimes.
BI records showed that Jiang has not left the Philippines since 2016, the same year he was placed on the Chinese government’s wanted list.
“He has been blacklisted and banned from re-entering the Philippines,” BI spokesperson, lawyer Ma. Antonette Mangrobang said.
She added that Jiang would be flown to China as soon as the BI secures the necessary clearances for his deportation. (PNA)
