Party-list groups have until April 30 to register: Comelec

MANILA — New and existing party-list organizations may file their manifestation to participate in the 2019 midterm elections until April 30, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Monday.

Meanwhile, the poll body said that the submission of the list of nominees of party-lists will coincide with the filing of Certificates of Candidacy for next year’s polls.

The Comelec has yet to determine the deadline for the said activities.

“(Deadline is) within the period designated by the Commission for the filing of Certificates of Candidacy (COC),” according to Comelec Resolution No. 10245.

All party-list groups that will participate in the elections are required to submit their respective list of not less than five nominees from which the representatives shall be chosen in case they obtain the required number of votes.

Prior to the 2016 polls, the period to file COCs as well as submit the list of party-list nominees was conducted sometime in October 2015.

A total of 115 accredited party-list groups participated in the last party-list elections.

Of the 115 participating party-list groups, nominees of 46 organizations are now occupying 59 party-list seats in the House of Representatives. (PNA)
