90% of Malaybalay drug responders complete rehab

MALAYBALAY CITY — A total of 2,228 Tokhang (Toktok Hangyo) responders who enrolled to the three-week Community-Based Drug Rehabilitation Program (CBDRP) have completed their rehabilitation program.

Maria Maida D. Apostol, city local government operations officer (CLGOO), said the figure represents 90 percent of the 2,471 of total CBDRP enrolment.

Apostol said the graduates would be assessed whether they qualify to avail the livelihood program of the city government. She said they would negotiate with the Technical Education and Skills Development Agency (TESDA) for plumbing and welding skills training of the qualified responders.

Apostol said the 3,182 individuals from Malaybalay is part of the 744,560 total nationwide Tokhang surrenderers.

Apostol said drug surrenderers, mostly drug users, were assessed as the basis for admission to the three-week rehabilitation program. She said the assessment was divided into 13 clusters. After the assessment, voluntary rehabilitation program followed.

She said the daily rehabilitation session begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m., and participants were allowed to go home after the session.

Facilitated by 30 service providers, the module includes daily medication, lectures and workshops, group and one on one therapy.

Since January 2017 to February 2018, Apostol said 10 batches have completed the rehab program.

Apostol said the barangay-based program is initiated and funded by the city government as part of its intervention programs.

Earlier, Chief Inspector Arce Yam-oc, operations chief of Bukidnon Police Provincial Office, said around 33,000 drug users and pushers surrendered in Bukidnon province. (Mel B. Madera/PNA)
