Cavite public safety office to hold firefighting training

TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite – Cavite’s provincial government and public safety office, along with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), are set to conduct basic firefighting training on March 20 and 27.

Public relations officer of the Provincial Government – Cavite Office of Public Safety (PG-COPS), Trixia Flores, told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) on Tuesday that a total of 200 participants will join the training courses to be held at the provincial gymnasium.

The activity, which is part of the observance of March as “Fire Prevention Month”, aims to step up the provincial employees’ preparedness and response capabilities during fire in their workplace and home, Flores said.
She said the activity, to be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., includes lectures and an actual fire drill to check how effective the training is.

According to BFP records, the top three causes of fire in the country are faulty electrical wirings, irresponsible disposal of lit cigarette butts, and open flames from unattended stoves.
In 2017, a total of 14,000 fires occurred nationwide, killing about 304 people and destroying PHP7.8-billion worth of property.

PG-COPS is also cascading BFP’s safety tips during fire incidents: to alert others and find your way out; evacuate immediately; assist those who are in need (pregnant, child, elderly, persons with disability, mentally ill); stay low and crawl through the smoke; use the fire extinguisher to put out small fires; and leave – do not return —  as life is more precious than anything else.
