NBI to probe Wahana Corp ‘investment scam’

MANILA — Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II has ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to probe the investment scam allegedly perpetrated by Wahana Credit and Loan Corp.

In his Department Order (DO) No. 133 issued Tuesday, Aguirre ordered the NBI to “conduct investigation and case build-up over the alleged multi-million investment scam” committed by the firm and file appropriate charges against its directors and corporate officers once these allegations are proven true.

He also directed NBI Director Dante Gierran to furnish his office with its activities related to the implementation of his directive.

Records from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) showed Wahana is not registered and is not allowed to solicit investments.

The SEC said Wahana is promising investors returns as high as 12 percent per week and 48 percent per month through its business of lending money to casino players. (PNA)
