Abandoned logs confiscated in Benguet

CAMP BADO DANGWA, Benguet — A total of 932 board feet of illegally cut pine lumber worth PHP43,679 were seized by Bakun town policemen, Bakun Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer (MENRO), and the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) last week.

Based on the report of Police Regional Office Cordillera (PROCOR), the government teams were on forest patrol on Wednesday (March 7, 2018) for the anti-illegal logging operations in various sitios in barangay Ampusongan, when they discovered pine lumbers concealed with leaves and grasses at Sitio Mabilig, Ampusongan in Bakun, Benguet.

No persons were arrested during the operation.

Earlier, PROCOR director Supt. Edward Carranza called on local government units in the region to be pro-active in the protecting the environment to save the remaining forest cover in the Cordillera. (Primo Agatep/PNA)
