LAOAG CITY — In time for the Rabies Awareness Month, the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) is calling on all pet owners to have their dogs vaccinated and neutered.
Under Executive Order No. 84 signed on March 13, 1999 by then President Joseph Estrada, March was declared as Rabies Awareness Month.
Based on record of the National Rabies Prevention and Control program, there are approximately 300 to 600 Filipinos who die of rabies every year.
With this, Dr. Loida Valenzuela, PVO chief, said Wednesday they are offering free anti-rabies vaccination and neutering of dogs at their office located along Gomburza St., this city.
Along with the mass vaccination, all local government units (LGUs) in Ilocos Norte in cooperation with PVO are conducting an information drive about rabies control and management.
Valenzuela also said that as part of the intensified drive towards promoting Ilocos Norte as rabies-free province they are regularly conducting a search for the best performing LGU in the anti-rabies program.
With the help of local communities and other stakeholders, Valenzuela hopes Ilocos Norte will soon officially be declared as a rabies-free province. (PNA)
