BFAR to turn over P6-M fish landing centers in Capiz towns

ILOILO CITY — The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) will turn over two community fish landing centers in Capiz on Friday.

The towns of Pontevedra and Sapian are the first two recipients of fish landing centers in Capiz from BFAR. Five other fish landing centers will be constructed in Pilar, President Roxas, Panay and Ivisan.
Each center costs PHP3 million, said Edwin Javier, Capiz provincial fishery officer of BFAR, in a phone interview on Thursday.

The center will serve as a hub of fishery activities and will cater to the needs of small fisherfolks, he said.
It has an area where fisherfolks can sell their products because each center is provided with six stand-alone stainless stalls.

The landing center also comes with a freezer where they can get their supply of ice that they need.
Javier said the establishment of the fish landing centers is part of BFAR’s campaign on food safety.

The facility will be turned over to the fisherfolks association in the area but if they are not yet capable, then the host local government would manage its operations.

The local government unit had provided the lot where the center was built.

The National Anti-Poverty Commission, on the other hand, handled the social preparations of the fisherfolks association to train them how to manage the facility. (PNA)
