Army honors Tejeros Convention

MANILA — As part of its 121st founding anniversary celebrations, the Philippine Army (PA) on Thursday conducted a wreath-laying ceremony in Kawit, Cavite Thursday in honor of the Tejeros Convention.

Lt. Col. Louie Villanueva, PA spokesperson, said the Tejeros Convention was one of the significant events of the past that helped shaped the Philippine Army.

“The said activity is also part of the activities in line with the celebration of the PA’s 121st founding anniversary,” he added.

The Tejeros Convention was held in Tejeros, San Francisco de Malabon in Cavite (now Gen. Trias) in March 22, 1897 and heralded the birth of the Philippine Revolution Government headed by Emilio Aguinaldo and the formation of its army, Ejercito en la Republica de las Islas Filipinas, which was commanded by Gen. Artemio Ricarte.

Aguinaldo’s army is considered the direct ascendant of the modern day PA. (Priam Nepomuceno/PNA)
