Summer approaching but scattered rains to prevail until Saturday

MANILA — Summer is just around the corner with endless azure blue skies as the weather becomes warmer, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Friday.

The state-owned agency said easterlies are affecting the country, although scattered rains would continue until Saturday afternoon.

In its 4-p.m. weather bulletin on Friday, which is effective for 24 hours, PAGASA said Eastern Visayas will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and isolated thunderstorms due to the easterlies. It also cautioned of possible flooding or landslides caused by light to moderate with occasional heavy rains in the area.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers will also occur in Metro Manila and the other parts of the country due to localized thunderstorms.

Northern Luzon and the eastern section of Central and Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao will have moderate to rough coastal waters pushed by moderate to strong winds.

Slight to moderate coastal waters will also prevail over the rest of Luzon and Visayas brought by light to moderate winds.

Other parts of Mindanao will experience slight to moderate coastal waters caused by light to moderate winds.

in a telephone interview with Philippine News Agency (PNA) on Friday afternoon, PAGASA forecaster Ezra Bulquerin said the state weather bureau forecasts the summer season to start by the last week of March to the first week of April.

Bulquerin noted the summer season was announced last year in the first week of April.

The forecaster further said the usual peak in temperature occurs during the last week of April.

Bulquerin added the summer season usually ends during the last week of May. (PNA)
