Parts of EDSA set for weekend repairs

MANILA — Some parts of the busy Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA), both on the northbound and southbound lanes, will undergo road repairs every weekend starting March 23 until June 4, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said Tuesday.

Repairs will be conducted on the northbound stretch from Nepa Q Mart to the GMA Kamuning area on March 23-26, April 6-10, April 20-23 and April 27-30.

On the other hand, road works will be done on the southbound stretch from Aurora Boulevard to P. Tuazon on March 28-April 2, April 6-10, April 13-16, April 27-30, May 11-14, May 18-21, May 25-28 and June 1-4.

These activities were coordinated by the Department of Public Works and Highways with the agency, MMDA Acting General Manager Jojo Garcia said.

“We want to thank the DPWH for they are in constant coordination with the MMDA,” Garcia said in a press briefing Monday afternoon.

The MMDA official explained that road repairs should be done on weekends as there is lower volume of vehicles in Metro Manila, and students are on summer vacations.

Motorists are advised to use the Mabuhay Lanes and other alternate routes to avoid heavy traffic for the duration of the road reblocking.

The MMDA will continue to conduct its clearing operations of illegally parked vehicles to provide alternate roads for the affected motorists.

The road activities are scheduled from 11 p.m. on Fridays up to 5 a.m. on Mondays, and will be done one lane per every segment to ensure that EDSA still remains passable.

“We always tell the public that any kind of obstruction will cause traffic on EDSA. This early we want the public to know about this road repair and maintenance works so they can plan their trips ahead,” Garcia said.

At least 300,000 vehicles pass through EDSA on a daily basis, according to the MMDA. (Aerol John Pateña/PNA)
