CEBU CITY — Barangay tanods (village watchmen) will no longer have to line up for hours at the Cebu City Hall to claim their honoraria as they received their Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) cash cards on Tuesday.

The Cebu city government released the first batch of cash cards to solve the problem in the distribution of honoraria to barangay tanod, especially those coming from the mountain and far-flung villages.

A total of 577 watchmen from 32 barangays in the city claimed their cash cards at the Cebu City Office for Substance Abuse Prevention (Cosap).

The distribution of cash cards is the brainchild of Cosap executive director Garry Lao who saw the need for a hassle-free system in releasing the honoraria of barangay tanod, said Farlash Acenas of the Cebu City Public Information Office,

The first batch of tanod who received their cash cards were from Barangays Bonbon, San Antonio, Guadalupe, Luz, Sudlon I, Sudlon II, Labangon, Binaliw, Hipodromo, Cambinocot, Paril, Cogon Ramos, Bulacao, Kamagayan, Punta Princesa, Banilad, Pit-os, Apas, Buot-Taup, Pahina San Nicolas, Tejero, Tabunan, Sinsin, Babag, Sawang Calero, Pung-ol Sibugay, Budla-an, Pulangbato, Quiot, Talamban, Adlaon, and Sta. Cruz.

Acenas said the schedule for the distribution of the second batch would be announced as soon as the Cosap receives the cash cards from DBP. (PNA)
