GENERAL SANTOS CITY–A policeman who was included in President Rodrigo R. Duterte’s narco-list and a businessman were separately gunned down by motorcycle-riding suspects around noon here Tuesday (March 20).
Police Officer 1 Glenn Alicarte, 34, was about to board his vehicle parked along the Bula-Lagao Road at past 12 noon when he was shot by still unidentified suspects who were riding-in-tandem on a motorcycle.
The victim, who just had his lunch at a nearby eatery, died on-the-spot due to three gunshot wounds on the head, police said.
Alicarte was a former member of the city police drug enforcement unit but was transferred to the Philippine National Police headquarters in Camp Crame in 2016 after being named by the President as among the active policemen allegedly involved in the drug trade.
He arrived in the city last March 14 to visit his family and reportedly attended a court hearing.
About an hour after the incident, a businessman from Barangay San Isidro was also shot dead by unidentified motorcycle riding-in-tandem suspects along the NLSA Road in Barangay Lagao.
Witnesses said victim Delon Miranda Bansuan, 44, was boarding his vehicle when a gunman approached and shot him several times.
Chief Insp. Peter Panaligan Jr. said the victim just had finished lunch with his wife at an eatery in the area when he was shot.
“According to witnesses, the suspects were already following them. They shot him as he was entering his vehicle,” he said.
Insp. Panaligan said the city police’s mobile patrol team launched hot pursuit operations but failed to catch up with the suspects.
Panaligan said they could not yet say whether the two incidents were related but noted that investigators are currently looking at all possible angles. (AMS/PNA)
