PH taps Malaysian firm to build world-class sport facilities in Clark

KUALA LUMPUR –The Philippines’ Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) has partnered with Malaysian developer MTD Capital Berhad in building sports facilities in the country that will be used for the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games 2019.

In a statement Tuesday, BCDA said the first phase of the National Government Administrative Center (NGAC) in New Clark City in Central Luzon in the Philippines would involve the construction of world-class sports facilities for the 2019 SEA Games.

The SEA Games facilities will be built in a 40-hectare land within the 220-hectare property of the NGAC.

BCDA and MTD Capital forged a joint venture to develop the NGAC in New Clark City, the flagship project and biggest land development of the government-owned and controlled corporation.

NGAC aims to house back-up offices of various government agencies, which are currently located in Metro Manila; one way to decongest the National Capital Region.

BCDA and MTD Capital had the groundbreaking ceremony for the PHP121.8-billion NGAC last January.

Some officials of BCDA and MTD Capital are meeting in Putrajaya, Malaysia’s government center, which will also be the model for the Philippines’ NGAC.

MTD Capital is also the developer of Putrajaya.

“The projects lined up by BCDA for Clark is also a testament to the administration’s promise of inclusive growth by increasing government spending on infrastructure and creating jobs and opportunities outside the capital region,” BCDA said.

“Aside from NGAC and NCC (New Clark City), BCDA’s priority projects include the expansion of the Clark International Airport and the Subic-Clark railway,” it added. (Kris Crismundo/PNA)
