Malaysian firm waits NEDA’s nod for P60-B MRT-9 project

KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysia-based AlloyMTD Group is waiting for the approval of the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) Board for the Metro Rail Transit-9 (MRT-9), or the East-West Rail project, its executive told reporters here Tuesday.

MTD Philippines, Inc. President Patrick Nicholas David said the AlloyMTD Group has submitted the unsolicited proposal for the MRT-9 project to the Philippine government.

Once approved, the project would be up for a Swiss challenge, David added.

The MRT-9 project will be a nine-kilometer railway system connecting Lerma, Sampaloc in Manila and the University of the Philippines (UP), Diliman in Quezon City via España.

David said the project costs around PHP60 billion.

He said AlloyMTD would be partnering with A Brown Company, Inc. for the development of the MRT-9.

A Brown is the developer of the high-end Xavier Estates in Cagayan de Oro City.

In November 2016, AlloyMTD also signed an agreement with the Philippines’ East West Group to develop the MRT-9.

The Malaysian company has been in the Philippines since 2004, with South Luzon Expressway as its first project.

AlloyMTD also has ongoing partnership with the Philippine government-owned Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) to build the National Government Administrative Center (NGAC) in New Clark City in Central Luzon.

Development of new transport systems is part of the Duterte administration’s Build, Build, Build infrastructure program.

The administration also aims to decongest Metro Manila by building new, smart, and sustainable cities like the New Clark City. ( Kris Crismundo/PNA)
