2ID army troopers stage fun bike on 42nd pre-anniversary fest

CAMP GENERAL MATEO CAPINPIN, Tanay, Rizal – Troopers and support services personnel of the Philippine Army’s 2nd Infantry ‘Jungle Fighter’ Division (2ID) staged their Fun Bike on Wednesday morning as part of their pre-anniversary activities highlighting the 2ID’s 42nd founding year in this camp.

2ID public affairs chief Captain Patrick Jay M. Retumban said the ‘Fun Bike’ is both a fitness, stamina and endurance event yet fun-filled as the army troopers here drum up preparations to highlight their 42nd Founding Anniversary on March 23.

Retumban said that the 2ID adopts this year’s theme: “Committed Jungle Fighters: 42 years of serving the people and securing the land.”

Colonel Marceliano V. Teofilo, 2ID chief of staff, 2ID and Dr. Gilbert Esquejo, lead surgeon of the Philippine Band of Mercy were at the lead pack of the hundreds of fun bikers which started their cycling rounds around 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

Joining them were 2ID officers, enlisted personnel, dependents and civilian employees as well as participating bikers and cyclists from the Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) and civilian guest bikers.

The fun bikers embarked on their 42-kilometer run from Camp Capinpin to the headquarters of the 80th Infantry Battalion in Baras, Rizal.

After the fun bike, Colonel Faisal Nawang, assistant Division Commander for Reservist and Retirees Affairs together with Dr. Esquejo awarded the plaques to the winners.

The military top brass and troopers also staged their fun marathon in this camp as part of the anniversary celebration salvo last Saturday, and an Anniversary Fun Golf at the Sierra Madre Golf Course last Monday.

The 2ID public affairs chief also said that in the runup to the anniversary celebration, the army troopers and civilian participants are up for the beat of their Mega Zumba fest slated on Thursday (March 22).

The founding day celebration on March 23 will be marked with the Anniversary Parade with DENR Secretary Roy A. Cimatu as Guest of Honor and Speaker at the parade grounds and grandstand. (Saul Pa-a/PNA)
