Maguindanao PNP issues safety tips during Holy Week

SHARIFF AGUAK, Maguindanao—Police authorities in Maguindanao have issued safety tips during the observance of Holy Week by the Catholic faithful starting Palm Sunday on March 25.

Senior Supt. Agustin Tello, provincial police director, said the best way to avoid being robbed or victimized by criminals during religious holidays is to follow the PNP safety tips.

For families going on a long travel, Tello advised  them to properly lock doors and windows of their homes.

He also reminded the public to secure valuables that are considered “robber’s favorite items” like bicycle, motorbikes, among others.

“Posting in the social media about one’s travel is discouraged,” Tello told reporters.

He also directed all town police chiefs to implement “Oplan SumVac (Summer Vacation)” to ensure everything is peaceful and orderly during one of Christendom’s most important annual religious observance.

Tello assured the public that ample security personnel, including soldiers, are already deployed in areas where the  faithful are expected to converge.

While predominantly inhabited by Muslims, Maguindanao’s 37 municipalities have significant Christian population.

So far, Tello said the police has not received any information on groups or individuals out to disrupt the Holy Week religious events. (Edwin Fernandez/PNA)
