Tapang at Malasakit National Basketball and Volleyball Tournament officially kicks-off

PASIG CITY—The inaugural staging of The Presidential son and former Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo “Pulong” Duterte’s Tapang at Malasakit National Basketball and Volleyball Tournament 2018 blazed with success on Saturday (March 24) at Ynares Arena.

The goal of the program is to advocate and intensify the promotion of sports throughout the county, to rekindle and strengthen to today’s youth the virtues of competitiveness, unity, and excellence that are inherent in our “katutubong kaugalian,” and to keep their focus away from vices and habits that adversely affect the society.

Over a thousand participants, along with a crowd of family, friends, and special guests attended the opening ceremony.

Among the notable personalities that graced the occasion are Tapang at Malasakit Tournament Sports Head Mark Herrera, Assistant Secretary of the Presidential Communications Operations Ms. Mocha Uson, AMA Senior Vice President Arnel Hibo, Antipolo City Mayor Jun Ynares, Municipality of Angono Mayor Gerry Calderon and more.

Hosted by PTV Sports senior presenter Meg Siozon and former San Beda Red lions big man Sudan Daniel, the event amplifies a cultural display of sportsmanship and camaraderie.

Basketball and Volleyball athletes from the National Capital Region and Rizal province proudly paraded their delegations exhibiting readiness to keep this nationwide tourney up and going.

2017 PBA D-league 1st round draft pick Owen Graham led the opening prayer while former Hi-5 member Alex Reyes headed the singing of the Philippine National Anthem.

The Oath of Sportsmanship was led by RP Youth elite athlete Ian Chua.

Meanwhile, Assistant Secretary of The Presidential Communications Operations Office Mocha Uson delivered an inspiring opening remark, “Sa sports may forever! Lagi nating tatandaan na sa droga lahat ay talo, pero sa sports kahit talo tayo sa ilang laro, panalo na rin tayo dahil natutunan natin ang tamang disiplina at pagiging team player,” she said.

Mr. Paolo “Pulong” Duterte and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio thanked the people who supported the event and sent their heartfelt congratulations especially to the athletes who are the stars of the program.
