DOH gives safety travel tips for Holy Week travelers

MANILA — The Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday reminded anew the public to stay safe as they make an exodus to the provinces for the Holy Week break.

In its Road Safety advisory, DOH has advised motorists and travellers alike to do the following:

Avoid using cell phones while driving; same to pedestrians when crossing the streets; avoid driving when drunk and sleepy; drivers and passengers should always wear their seat belts; inspect first their vehicle before leaving home, to make sure that it is functioning well and is good condition; follow traffic rules and regulations and also be tolerant to other vehicles as well as pedestrians crossing the road; and for pedestrians, use only the designated pedestrian’s path.

Aside from this road safety advisory, the DOH also advised those travelers who are on medications to bring with them their medicines and other necessities as a safety precaution.

Some other necessities they need to bring include emergency first-aid packs, enough water to hydrate themselves as frequent as possible especially this summer.

In addition to bringing packed foods, DOH Undersecretary Enrique Domingo said that it is better to bring foods that will not easily spoil when exposed to hot temperature.

“If anyone will plan to go for picnic vacation, be sure to avoid foods that will not last long in hot temperature,” Domingo said. (PNA)
