PH, France link up to raise aviation practices to higher level

MANILA — The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with its French counterpart, the Direction Générale de l’Aviation Civile (DGAC), on Friday to promote best practices and world standards in aviation.

The MOU “stems from the technical cooperation agreements” signed by the two authorities in 1999 and in 2011, CAAP spokesperson Eric Apolonio told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) after the MOU signing at the Civil Aviation Training Center (CATC) Compound in Pasay City.

Specifically, the MOU is for the implementation of the Standards and Recommended Practices of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).

Apolonio said the CAAP-DGAC partnership aims to address issues on safety, air traffic control and infrastructure development, among others.

“The MOU will also address issues on training policy and on the provision of air navigation services,” he said.

The two authorities will discuss the airports’ development programs, management, security, environmental protection, and certification.

To ensure safety, the two will also work on topics, such as licensing, maintenance of an aircraft, and air traffic services.

“CAAP and DGAC will work on training mechanisms and train instructors,” Apolonio added.

The MOU was signed by CAAP Director General Jim Sydiongco and DGAC Asia Pacific Director Thibaut Lallemand. (PNA)
