Some Asian media leaders have discussed media interconnectivity and cooperation to make the region more open and innovative at the Media Leaders Summit for Asia in Sanya, south China’s Hainan Province.
Delegates from all the 59 media outlets signed a joint statement on promoting media cooperation within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, and also signed nine other cooperation agreements at the summit on Monday.
Heads of media organizations said cooperation and interconnectivity are important for the exchanges and communication among different cultures.
“Asia is very diversified. Many countries have different political and social systems as well as different concepts on civilization. It’s very important to work together and find out a way to enable us to get true information across in our news coverage,” said Lee Huay Leng, head of Chinese Media Group of Singapore Press Holdings.
Pramote Chokesirikulchai, managing director of PNN TV Cambodia, said media interconnectivity enables people in the region to have easier access to media contents of different countries.
“At the same time, that will create whatever we call the ‘digital infrastructure’ for digital content for the media. And that’s when the media can actually have the access, all the people in the area, in the region can have the access to easy media and they will be able to learn the content that I mentioned before that we will cooperate or co-produce such content for a better understanding not just the business mind, not just the culture, it’s also a bond for the new closer, no-barrier relationship,” said Chokesirikulchai.
The summit, under the theme of “A New Era of Media Cooperation in Asia – Interconnectivity and Innovative Development”, was attended by more than 300 people, including over 140 leaders of major media outlets from 40 Asian countries, as well as cultural scholars and other representatives. | BRNA
