‘Early birds’ file COC in Bataan town

SAMAL, Bataan–The municipal office of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) here was already full of candidates as early as 8 a.m. on Saturday, filing their Certificate of Candidacy (COC) for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) election on May 14, 2018.

Some candidates for punong barangay and kagawad were in groups and in red T-shirt and accompanied by their wife and other relatives “to lend moral support.”

Meanwhile, other candidates for barangay kagawad were in blue T-shirt and filed their COC without the presence of their candidates for punong barangay.

Some candidates for barangay council lacked the necessary documentary stamp though and have to come back to the poll office.

“(The) deadline of the filing of COC is April 20, 2018. The campaign period, on the other hand is from May 4 – 12, 2018,” Maribeth Abadecio, Samal election officer, said.

“It is better to be early. As the saying goes the early bird beats the industrious person, ” barangay kagawad Demetrio Gavino, who is running for punong barangay of San Roque, Samal answered when asked why they chose to be early.

He said he wanted to serve his barangay mates and that there are three of them running for punong barangay. (Ernie Esconde/PNA)
