Ex-Bataan board member sued for not declaring properties in SALN

MANILA — The Office of the Ombudsman on Tuesday sued a former board member of Bataan for allegedly failing to declare his properties in his Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN) 11 years ago.

In the complaint filed before the Sandiganbayan, the Ombudsman argued that former Bataan provincial board member Edward Cruz Roman violated the law when he failed to declare in his SALN in 2007 three parcels of land and one irrigated riceland in Orani town.

Roman is facing a perjury case before the anti-graft court.

During its investigation, the Ombudsman found that the titles of the properties were in Roman’s name, amounting to a total of PHP330,000.

“The said accused very well knew that the said statement was false as he owned the aforementioned properties/assets which were registered in his name, there making a willful and deliberate assertion of a falsehood in a sworn statement,” the Ombudsman said in its complaint. (Perfecto Raymundo, Jr./PNA)
