Bacolod cops seize P3.88-M in drugs in 15 days

BACOLOD CITY — The Bacolod City Police seized PHP3.88 million worth of methamphetamine hydrochloride or “shabu” in the first two weeks of April, figures released by the police on Tuesday showed.

Police confiscated a total of 258.8 grams of the illegal substance, and arrested 18 persons in nine operations conducted mostly by the City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU) on April 1-15, as well as filed charges against eight persons.

CDEU operatives on April 10 seized an estimated PHP3.7 million worth of “shabu” from suspect Jeffrey Virgel, 35, during a buy-bust operation in Barangay 33 here.

Senior Supt. Francisco Ebreo, Bacolod Police officer-in-charge, said the monitoring of the illegal drug supply in the city continues.

“Our operatives are relentless in addressing the illegal drug problem,” Ebreo said, noting that people who are poor and unemployed and who want easy money get caught up in the illegal drug trade despite the risks.

He said more new drug personalities are being identified, with the cooperation of barangay officials and other community stakeholders.

More newly-identified drug personalities surrender because they now see the government’s efforts to help them after turning themselves in, he added.

Under “Tokhang Relaunch”, four houses were visited and 12 houses were revisited by anti-drug operatives, and one newly-identified drug personality voluntarily surrendered on the first two weeks of the month. (PNA)
