UV scores back-to-back routs to begin Palaro HS hoops stint

VIGAN, Ilocos Sur — University of Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers issued an early statement in the Palarong Pambansa secondary boys basketball tournament after winning its games twice in a row.

The Baby Lancers took a 94-72 victory over the Cordillera Administrative Region at the Quirino Stadium in Bantay town, Ilocos Sur on Monday.

Looking to give Central Visayas a better finish this year following a bronze in Antique last year, the Baby Lancers opened its account by limiting their Cordillera counterparts to only 10 points in the first quarter before erupting for 29 in the third.

The next day at the San Juan Municipal Gymnasium in San Juan town, Ilocos Sur, UV romped ARMM, 88-72, to go 2-0 up.

Davao Region also had back-to-back routs to start its own campaign.

Backed by a 38-point second quarter, Davao Region mauled ARMM, 103-59, also at the Quirino Stadium on Monday night before adding more woes to CAR with an 84-70 blowout at the San Juan Municipal Gymnasium on Tuesday.

NU and San Beda-Taytay joined UV and Davao Region at 2-0 following blowout wins against Central Luzon and Bicol respectively.

Before its loss to San Beda-Taytay, Bicol dropped a 56-64 decision to Northern Mindanao, and Bicol eventually fell to 0-3 in the standings.

In the other game, Mimaropa bounced back with a 67-62 win against Zamboanga Peninsula. (Ivan Stewart Saldajeno/PNA)
